I know there are a million reviews already for Perly's, but I loved my experience here so much that I had to add another one. We were in town for the Richmond marathon, and came on Wednesday around 9AM. There were plenty of seats open, but I'm guessing cause it was a weekday morning. When I passed by after the marathon on Saturday, the place was packed with lines out the door. Like everyone else, we ordered latkes and the matzo ball soup. FANTASTIC! I would also highly recommended getting the Schnorrer since it was a great deal, but probably not the whitefish since it was smoked and not fresh (unless that's what you prefer). Coffee is unlimited, service was amazing (our waiter always greeted us with a huge smile on his face). What an establishment and Richmond gem. I'll always come back if I'm ever in town.
A Richmond staple. This should be a must visit on any foodies list. Very cool old Richmond building, pressed tin ceiling. The selection and options are plenty. I had a patty melt, it was very good but the pastrami and Swiss that someone else at my table had looked amazing. The fries were perfectly cooked. Next time I will be trying the matzo ball soup as that also looked top notch. Did I mention they have egg cream and house made sodas? So much to try, I will just have to go back again and again.
Oh My! As many times as I've been to Richmond, why, oh why, hadn't I tried Perly's before! Perly's is a classic Jewish deli with incredible traditional items served in heaping portions. When you go into Perly's you get a sense of tradition in a warm and welcoming (and busy) atmosphere. The Matzoh Ball Soup is an incredible dish, featuring tender matzoh balls in a flavorful broth with just the right seasoning. Its a great way to start your meal and showcases their pproach to classic comfort food. The chicken liver plate was my fave, with a mix of flavors and textures. The smooth, liver pairs well with the tangy pickles, creamy schmear, and rye toast, creating a well-rounded dish with tasty accompaniments. The Pastrami on Rye is the deli's expertise, with tender pastrami served on rye bread that complements its flavors. Crisp pickles and a side of mustard provide a nice contrast, making it a solid choice for anyone hankering for a traditional deli sandwich. Perly's is a great experience for those seeking authentic Jewish fare (or other comfort food of your choice). Since my first visit, I've been back twice, each time that I've been to/through Richmond. It is THAT good!
Perly's is everything a Jewish deli should be! The service is fabulous, the food is amazing, and the vibes are perfect! This place always has a wait and it's totally worth it! Unfortunately I failed miserably on getting pictures, but my partner who is Jewish said it's per damn close to his Nonna's so you'll just have to take our word and go get your own pictures.
What a cute place! Easily got a table for two at lunchtime on a Wednesday. Great attentive service and LOVE the restaurant. As they say, super nostalgic vibes. We ordered latkes, the patty melt, and the sub snyderman which was a roast beef sandwich. Loved the fresh, hot latkes with classic sauces and everything came out quickly. The fries were crispy wedges with fun seasoning, although it wasn't too dill-forward. I enjoyed the patty melt and the sub snyderman - patty was cooked perfectly and it was fatty goodness. I did feel like the SS was a little dry and couldn't really taste the horseradish, so it was a little bit disappointing, but it was somehow still pretty good the next day. Would definitely come back but would try some other stuff next time!
Perly's is a great spot for lunch or brunch--if you can get a seat! They offer a homey diner feel similar to what you can find in the Northeast. Their reuben is probably my favorite menu item. Their slices are nice and thick which showcases the quality of their meat. The meat itself is tender and has just enough fattiness. Their dill fries are delicious and have a very crunchy exterior with an almost pillowy center. I always order them as my side here. Their brussel sprouts are another item that is good to share. The mazoh ball soup is comforting on a cold day. Latkahs are another good item to try! Some items can be overly salty like their sailor which just needs a fresh or contrasting element in my opinion. They definitely have way more hits than misses and that's why they are such a Richmond staple.
Perly's is a Jewish restaurant and deli that serves traditional Jewish food with a twist. The menu features classic Jewish deli dishes like smoked fish and matzoh ball soup, and more modern twists like Jewish egg rolls. A fairly extensive menu plus deli options. Today we enjoy some delicious food that brought me back to the streets of New York, chopped chicken livers and bagel (so fresh!) with lox & cream cheese. Also had a more non traditional Jewish egg roll - filled with beef, tongue & Kishka. Fully stuffed as we waddled out, but I saw a truly hearty bowl of matzoh ball soup that I wished I had room for. Will definitely be back! Although busy, we were able to be seated promptly, waitress was present quickly, order taken after taking time for menu, and meal was served quite promptly. Throughout meal waitress was present if needed, but not obtrusive. Once we were done, she quickly noticed and after inquiring if we wanted anything else, presented the bill. Prices were reasonable for what was served; I think it was a good value.
Perfect deli with traditional Jewish offerings for customers such as chopped chicken liver and onions along with a side of Jewish egg rolls. What made them Jewish was the presence of tongue. Ugh, gross for me but hubby enjoyed eating them and after I nibbled a bit of his egg roll then later with mustard I found out that they contained tongue. Thank goodness I didn't get any when I nibbled. My dish was the everything bagel served with smoked salmon, cream cheese with chives, capers, red onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and cucumbers. We loved it here as we are former NY'ers. My dish was listed as the bagel with fish. We got lucky with parking as it's only street parking and first come, first served. We'll be back to this discovered deli that brought us back to NY. Clean but retro booths and the server was prompt.
I've visited Perot's twice and obviously I never posted my first review when I visited for lunch. All I can say was the food was good enough for me to bring my wife there for breakfast. I put myself out there some and tried the French toast w apples and raisins and something else, lol. The service was good and the atmosphere nice. Kinda like a hipster vibe and not really loud.
First come first served and this place gets busy! There are some chairs to sit on outside but they're in direct sunlight in the morning so most people opt to wait in the shade. There isn't a buzzer system so you have to have someone in your party staying in front of the restaurant to wait for your party's name to be called. The host called a party of three a few times and walked down the block to call their name as well (they never showed) so they do make an effort to contact you once it's your time. We came on a Thursday morning and waited for around 30 - 45 minutes. We were lucky to find free, two-hour street parking around the corner but it seems like parking can be tricky to find. Once seated, the waitress took our order and served us our meals relatively quickly. We didn't feel rushed, though because we were a table of two, we were sat at one of the two-seater tables which are on the smaller side. I felt a bit cramped, even as a petite person. My husband got the corned beef hash and I got the meat knish and a side of dill potato salad. We also shared a chocolate babka. This was our first time eating Jewish food (besides pastrami at Katz' in NYC lol) and we loved it! Everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The knish is technically supposed to be an appetizer but I saw a photo on Yelp and am glad I ordered it as my entree--it was huge! We don't have Jewish restaurants or markets where we're from so it was a surprising treat to stumble upon Perly's in Richmond! Despite the busyness, our waitress was attentive and friendly. She also recommended some spots for us to check out since it was our first morning on our first trip to Richmond.
